So, you’re holding an event, but you need to pay for the venue or for food… can you charge for tickets? How do you get paid back? Can you have sponsors? How does it all work?
These are great questions, so let’s break them down one-by-one:
Absolutely! We find that somewhere between $7-$15 is normally sufficient, but that’s a general guideline, and you may find a reason to do something different. Normally, charging for tickets is an option used to help off-set the cost of food, beverages or a venue fee, though a nominal (usually towards the lower end of the scale) fee may be useful in certain regions where people are more prone to sign-up and then not show (generally large, metropolitan areas where paying a small fee encourages participation).
Simple: request reimbursement (just fill out the form and attach your receipts) and we will send money via PayPal or check so you can be on your merry way. You can also check-in to see what your balance is, as any surplus generated through ticket sales is set-aside for the Agora to use for future expenses (same remuneration rules apply regarding receipts, though, so always get those!).
Of course! It’s pretty common for Agoras to have events be sponsored, usually for the cost of hosting or maybe providing a venue or drinks. If you identify that you will have a sponsor or partner for an Agora event, we will integrate that into the Eventbrite announcement and branding so they “feel the love” and we can always discuss specific requests as they come up (though it should generally be pretty easy).
If you’re looking to build long-term local sponsorships or partnerships independent of a specific event, that’s totally cool as well - you should post in lt-agoras or send us an email to figure out the best way forward so DEF can be sure to provide the financial infrastructure to support.
